Drs. Humberto Scoccia, Frank González recognized with Blue Distinction Center+ for Fertility Care Designation

Two UI Health reproductive endocrinologists recently were recognized by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Illinois for excellence in fertility care.
Dr. Humberto Scoccia, director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, and Dr. Frank González, director of the Laboratory for Reproductive Endocrine and Inflammation Research, received the Blue Distinction Centers+ for Fertility Care designation, a part of Blue Cross' Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.
Blue Distinction Centers are part of a national program that recognizes facilities that demonstrate expertise in safely and effectively delivering quality specialty care, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community and leading accreditation and quality organizations. The BDC+ designation also emphasizes a center's focus on cost-of-care measures.
Between 1987 and 2015, 1 million babies were born through the use of in vitro fertilization (IVF) or other assisted reproductive technology treatments, according to a study published in the 2015 Assisted Reproductive Technology National Summary Report. The Blue Distinction Centers for Fertility Care program evaluates physicians on several quality measures, including requiring physicians to follow the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) guidelines on single embryo transfer, which decreases the multiple pregnancy rate associated with IVF. Additionally, designated physicians must meet quality measures and standards set by the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) - the country's leading organization for assisted reproductive technology.
UI Health has previously been recognized by the BDC+ program for Maternity Care and Bariatric Surgery, and Transplant Surgery.
