Masking Guidance
Effective as of May 18
Masking is OPTIONAL in all clinical areas at the University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics:
- Clinic rooms
- Patient rooms
- Inpatient units
- Diagnostic areas
- Registration and waiting areas
- All areas of the Emergency Department
Masking Optional Guidelines:
- Masks are optional for all patients and visitors.
- Masks are optional for all staff with direct face-to-face contact with patients.
- High-risk individuals should continue to wear a mask.
- Staff should wear a mask while caring for immunocompromised patients.
- Masks are required if the patient requests the provider wear one.
The infection-prevention recommendations remain available to protect yourself and others:
- Vaccinate (when appropriate) to decrease the risk of severe disease or death.
- Wash your hands often
- Do not go to work if you are sick; if sick, speak with your doctor.
