Patient Support

Patient Support at UI Health’s Sickle Cell Program

At UI Health, we understand that living with sickle cell disease affects more than just physical health — it impacts every part of life. That’s why our care goes beyond medical treatment to include comprehensive support for patients and families.

Dedicated Social Worker

Our experienced social worker is here to help patients through their care journey at UI Health. They provide counseling, connect families to community resources, assist with school and workplace needs, and help patients navigate insurance and financial challenges. Most importantly, they serve as advocates, ensuring each patient feels supported and heard.

Support Groups for Connection & Empowerment

No one should face sickle cell disease alone. UI Health hosts regular support groups where patients and families can share their experiences, learn from one another, and build a strong sense of community. These groups are designed to create safe spaces for encouragement, education, and empowerment, reminding patients that they are never alone on their journey.

Whole-Person Care

By combining expert medical treatment with emotional, social, and practical support, UI Health provides care that addresses the whole person. From childhood through adulthood, our team is here to guide patients and families with compassion, understanding, and resources that help them thrive.
